Go out the front door, head west, and reach the beach in less than eight minutes (unless you linger to admire gardens or watch hummingbirds).
Head north and, within two blocks, you’re among Carmel’s storied galleries, shops, restaurants and courtyards.

Getting to Carmel
By car
Carmel is about a one hour drive from San Jose and a 2-hour drive from San Francisco, 7 hours from Los Angeles, and driveable in a day from most parts of California.
By air
The Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) is about 10 minutes from Carmel, offering direct service from Dallas, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Diego and San Francisco with connections worldwide.
Other options include San Jose International Airport (SJC) - about an hour away by car - and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) - about two hours away. Both offer shuttle bus and taxi transportation to Carmel.
By train
Salinas, 17 miles east of Carmel, is served by AMTRAK rail service. There is a shuttle bus and taxi service from the train station.
